The PUBLIC HEALTH / INTERDISCIPLINARY ACS

is 4-week selective that offers an opportunity to learn about the profession and practice of medicine in a community setting

  • working with special populations
  • participating in a service learning experience and
  • exploring interdisciplinary team practice and public health 
      
  Facilitation

East Texas AHEC staff throughout the state will help facilitate this course along with community partners.  Link here to the East Texas AHEC web site for a listing of all available community sites.

      
  Health Policy Option

UTMB and University of Texas System leadership have approved a special option in health policy development for the months of February through May 2009. Students approved for placement in the health policy option will work during the 81st Texas Legislative Session in the State Capitol office of a selected Senator or Representative to have a first-hand experience in the legislative process.

Students will gain firsthand experience in policy/legislation development processes while learning about the profession and practice of medicine in a community practice setting.
